The company was established over 40 years ago by Alan Janes, a Somerset Farmer, naming the company after the Family Farm ‘Briarwood’. As an innovative farmer, Alan sourced the best roofing products for his own farm buildings to improve welfare of his livestock and increase productivity. Due to the exceptional quality of the materials and reasonable price, Briarwood Farm soon began selling roofing products to other local farmers.
The family has a long history in Farming, running their own Beef Farm in Somerset. As farmers themselves they’ve always recognised and understood the needs of the agricultural market, as well as the challenges presented to farmers. Alan’s eldest son, Michael Janes, was crowned “World Champion” in Horse Ploughing, in 1985, reinforcing the “Janes Family” as name in Farming.
Alan Janes continues to source the best quality supplies, visiting manufacturers across Europe. The highest quality profiled sheets and hand-moulded fittings are discovered in Italy and Briarwood is the first distributor in the UK of high quality Italian Fibre cement Profiled Sheets.
Due to the exceptional quality of profiled sheets and high level of customer service, the business expands rapidly and Briarwood opens its first business premises down the road from the Family Farm in Weston Super Mare.
Briarwood launches EUROSIX Fibre Cement Sheets and accessories. The popular 6 inch profiled sheet rivals its competitors due to the outstanding quality and safety standards accreditations.
Briarwood begin manufacturing EUROSIX on a custom built production line. By managing its own dedicated production line Briarwood has complete control over the manufacturing process which enables production of the highest quality fibre cement sheets and accessories. The production process provides the capacity for Briarwood to deliver more sheets than any manufacturer to the UK market.
After founding the company almost 40 years ago, Alan Janes takes a decision to hand the day to day management of the company to his son Oliver. Alan remains involved in the strategic decisions of the company and visits the HQ daily. Oliver has ambitious plans for the future of Briarwood, expanding the product offering into Agricultural Building components.
Thanks to the efficient dedicated production line, as well as the company’s own transport fleet, providing a robust supply chain Briarwood becomes the UKs largest supplier of Fibre Cement sheets. The company needs a larger premisies to hold all of its stock and so moves to a new 21-acre HQ just off the M5 in Highbridge Somerset.
With the business growing the Family continue to run their expanding Beef Farm. Second generation Farmer, Nathan Janes takes over the day to day running of the Family Farm, breeding Parthenais cattle. Briarwood Farm provides a functioning example of the exceptional quality of their roofing products and allows the business to trial new products on Briarwood Farm before supplying them.
Briarwood launches a smaller profile of Fibre Cement Sheet specifically designed for the Equestrian sector and smaller buildings such as garages.
Briarwood expands its product range to offer “everything apart from the frame”. Helping customers to save time and money by ordering all their roof materials from one supplier.
As UKs leading supplier of Fibre Cement profiled sheeting as well as building components for agricultural buildings Briarwood rebrands to represent its new expanded product range.
After decades of working in partnership with their manufacturer Landini s.p.A, Briarwood makes a major investment in acquiring the Italian supplier creating an unrivalled combined manufacturer and distributor.
